Two landscapes in one National Park: the Dark Peak's gritstone moors and crags in the north, dropping south into the pastoral White Peak and the Derbyshire Dales. Between them, some of the best country-lane cycling in Britain — and in the Tissington, Manifold and High Peak Trails, three of the longest converted railway lines in the country, level and traffic-free.

The Peak is my own patch. I moved here to climb forty years ago, and when cragging lost its hold, mountain biking took its place and I read the landscape a different way. I served my apprenticeship with Andy Birkby and Kim George, who knew every lane and bridleway by heart and rarely looked at a map. Much of what's here I owe to them.
