Dryhill Vineyard, Ullenwood, Cheltenham GL53 9QR

The grape has returned to the slopes of Dryhill after a mere 2,000 years with abundance, aplomb and unexpected prematurity. The vines were laid down three years ago and growth was anticipated in five years. The long hot, sultry summer of 2018 has brought forth fruit of sweet alacrity. The Vintners, Nigel and Lesley-Anne Rowley, can now expect some 1,000 bottles from their first growth. A Bubbly wine to savour and to thank the Roman for their good measured sense in appreciating the slopes of Dryhill. Harking back, there is also some literary connection with this farm.

The Gloucester poet, Ivor Gurney lived here in 1919 following his experience in the trenches.  He would have walked and talked and thought up many a poem in these hills - see below. The Roman Villa is but a mere 250 metres from Dryhill Farm. The Vineyard is open to those who hire Dryhill Farm for the weekend, a week or as your Wedding Venue.

“The loveliest place almost that ever was,

the widest sweep of beauty before one”
